Dilma Rousseff, former President of Brazil, will participate in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of CLACSO in Russia and Finland

Along the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Latin American Council of Social Siences (CLACSO), the former President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, will give two public lectures in Russia and Finland.

On September 29 at 2 p.m., in the University of Helsinki, in the capital city of Finland, Rousseff will expose about the democratic transformation process in Brazil - during the last 15 years- and the social, educational, scientific and cultural advances. She will also expose about the complexities and political challenges opened by the new context that Brazil and Latin America are going through.

The visit of the former President of Brazil is organized by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), the University of Helsinki, and the European Council for Social Research on Latin America (CEISAL).

The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of CLACSO will continue since October 2 to 4 in St. Petersburg, Russia, where the III International Forum "Russia and Iberoamerica in the globalizing world: history and perspectives" will take place.

On October 5, Rousseff will give the "Latin America: public policies, citizenship and equality" conference, in The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), in Moscow.

On October 6, in the same city, she will take part in a debate at the Latin American Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with Russian researchers; officials and diplomatic representatives; Violeta Tayar of that institution; and Pablo Gentili, Doctor in Education and Executive Secretary of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO).

Dilma Rousseff was born in Belo Horizonte on December 14, 1947. She studied Economics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and was the first woman to be president of Brazil, a position she held from January 1, 2011 to August 31, 2016. In the government of Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva, Rousseff was minister of Mines and Energy, and head of the Cabinet.

The Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) is a non-governmental international organization with UNESCO associate status, established in 1967. We currently bring together 611 research centers and graduate schools in the field of the social sciences and humanities in 47 Latin American countries, the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain and Portugal.
